Many Kinds of Happiness

I am participating in #SOL19. Thanks to the twoslice-of-life2writingteachers blog team for hosting this event!

“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence (…) Happiness depends upon ourselves” – Aristotle

There are many kinds of happiness. At the end of the day, make a list of all the kinds of happiness you have experienced. Then choose the words that are important.  Choose one or several and write an email or text and send a message of praise or thanks to someone who reminds you of a happy moment or someone who makes you feel happy when you are with him/her.

Here is a list of kinds of happiness:   Badge happiness the science behind your smile

There are so many wonderful friends I could mention here, but I want to say a few words about Ralph. This spring will mark the sixth year of our married life. He adds balance to my right-brained, type A driven and workaholic personality.  Ralph lowers my blood pressure, takes care of things that drive me crazy (like technology problems), and is always ready to go to a movie or drive an hour so we can walk in Longwood Gardens. His response is simply, “Let’s do it!”

He humors my obsessions – like keeping the bird feeders full, no easy task right now with visiting starlings and grackles. Sometimes the trees just behind our house in Sandy Run Park  are filled with so many of them that we are reminded of the Alfred Hitchcock movie. Ralph always had a cat, and now he is stuck with three Welsh Corgis who dearly love him, too. He puts up with my hectic schedule and looks forward to the two or three weeks we vacation at the shore together. If I want to stay inside to read and write, he strolls off to the beach without a complaint. Often, he will take a chair for me, too, in case I decide to take a break and join him.

Ralph is always trying to get me to laugh, telling silly and corny jokes. He says I am too serious. He is right. I need to laugh more and learn to relax. We are both looking forward to a trip in late May/early June to the Amalfi Coast, one of Italy’s most exquisite and breathtaking destinations.  Positano, a pastel-coloured cascade of chic boutiques, to the west lies Sorrento, a handsome clifftop resort. Pompeii, the Isle of Capri, back to Naples, and ending with two days in Rome. This is my gift to my wonderful husband who will have his 70th birthday in the fall.  Every day he gifts me with his love and total support for my endeavors. Happiness is a life with Ralph.

Be happy for this moment.
This moment is your life.
