Free Time

What do they mean –

“Free time?”

Can there be such a thing?

Free time is always filled:

Laundry to be washed,

Floors to be mopped,

Flowers to be planted,

Dogs to be fed,

Books to be read,

Poems to write,

Candles to light,

Birthdays to celebrate.

Days turn to nights,

Years turn to decades,

Decades into lifetimes.

Time can’t be wasted,

Yet time can’t be saved.

We spend our days

Filling every minute.

And if we do take a moment,

A few precious moments

To sit back and do nothing –

We feel quite guilty and wonder:

“Is there something I should be

      DOING?”

FREETIME is a rare bird

That flies in another world

Where time is never measured.

  1. “Is there something I should be DOING?” I feel like this is me talking! There are so many aspects of your poem that I adore. Everything from the connections I can make to the comparison of time to a rare bird make your poem an enjoyable piece to read. ~Amy
